Prices are each provider's published monthly price for flea (and, where stated, tick) treatment; wormers are usually added every three months. Most show the exact price for your pet's weight after a short quiz.

What is actually in the box
Itch, VetBox, ManyPets and tails.com all send a spot-on containing fipronil and (S)-methoprene, the same active ingredients as Frontline Plus, which treats fleas and ticks and stops flea eggs developing. Protect My Pet sends branded Frontline Plus or Advantage, or equivalent products. The dog wormers sent contain praziquantel, pyrantel and febantel, which treat roundworm and tapeworm.
Every product these services name is either AVM-GSL (sold anywhere) or NFA-VPS(supplied by a vet, pharmacist or qualified person, known as an SQP) on the Veterinary Medicines Directorate's database. None sends a prescription-only medicine.
Lungworm: the gap in every subscription
Lungworm is spread by slugs and snails and can be serious in dogs. None of these subscriptions claims to cover it, and ManyPets and tails.com state that theirs does not. The products licensed against lungworm, including Advocate, NexGard Spectra and Milbemax, are prescription-only (POM-V), so they can only come from your vet or with a vet's prescription. If your dog eats slugs, snails or grass, ask your vet whether you need one.
Subscription or buy it yourself?
On 21 October 2026, VioVet listed Frontline Plus in packs of three at £24.99 for small dogs (2–10 kg), £25.89 for medium dogs (10–20 kg), £26.99 for large dogs (20–40 kg) and £17.99 for cats: £8.33, £8.63, £9.00 and £6.00 a dose. Those were promotional prices ending 27 October 2026 (VioVet listing). That puts one-off buying within a pound or two a month of the subscriptions. A subscription is worth it if reminders and letterbox delivery mean you treat on time every month.
Vet practice health plans
Health plans from vet practices bundle parasite treatment with vaccinations and check-ups. Published examples cost £16.99 to £25.99 a month: Vets4Pets Complete Care is £16.99 for a cat, £19.99 for a dog under 25 kg and £23.99 over 25 kg, with a 12-month minimum term and a £60 fee for cancelling within it (Vets4Pets). Plans can include vet-prescribed products, such as lungworm cover, that subscriptions cannot send.
How to choose
Check the weight band your pet falls into, because prices step up with size. Look at what triggers a charge: Itch charges for a box already dispatched when you cancel, and VetBox and Protect My Pet need you to cancel before that month's payment. If you already buy tails.com food, its add-on arrives with your deliveries; it cannot be bought on its own. What we did, and what we did not do
We did: compared each provider's published prices, products, introductory offers, delivery and cancellation terms on its own website, and checked the legal category of every named product on the Veterinary Medicines Directorate's Product Information Database.
We did not: use these services ourselves or test the products. Itch, tails.com and VioVet blocked our automated page checks, so we read their pages through a text reader; verify prices on their sites before buying. We could not confirm Itch's wormer prices by size or which of VetBox's two price lists is current, and we found no trading Flerm service.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Do flea subscriptions protect against lungworm?
None of the five subscriptions we compared claims lungworm protection, and ManyPets and tails.com say plainly that theirs does not. Products licensed against lungworm, such as Advocate, NexGard Spectra or Milbemax, are prescription-only, so ask your vet if lungworm is a risk where you live.
Are flea subscriptions cheaper than buying treatment yourself?
Not by much. On 21 October 2026 VioVet listed Frontline Plus, which has the same active ingredients as the Itch, VetBox and tails.com spot-ons, at £8.33 to £9.00 a pipette for dogs and £6.00 for cats in packs of three, on a promotion. Subscriptions cost from about £8.50 to £12.50 a month for dogs. You pay mainly for convenience and reminders.
Do I need a prescription for a flea subscription?
No. The products these services name are either AVM-GSL, which can be sold anywhere, or NFA-VPS, which must be supplied by a vet, pharmacist or suitably qualified person (SQP). The services employ SQPs for that. Prescription-only treatments need your vet.
