How much is the kennel cough vaccine?
Kennel cough (infectious respiratory disease) vaccines are non-core for pet dogs living in typical homes, according to WSAVA, so ask your vet whether your dog needs one. On its own it cost £38–£65. Old Registry Vets, Canterbury Vets and the RVC charge less when it is given with another vaccine, and Medivet prices it as a booster that includes kennel cough.

When do puppies need vaccinations?
Core vaccines every 2–4 weeks for puppies and kittens, with the final dose at 16 weeks of age or older, then revaccination at or after 26 weeks rather than waiting until 12–16 months. Core vaccines for dogs protect against distemper, adenovirus (hepatitis) and parvovirus, and leptospirosis vaccination is highly recommended where it is endemic (WSAVA 2024 guidelines.) UK vaccine brands have their own licensed schedules, so your vet will give exact dates. Our dog health hub sets out the same schedule as a table.
Ask your vet whether your practice's course includes the dose at or after 26 weeks, because most lists price only the first two injections. The first-year costs of a new puppy, from vaccinations to insurance, are in our new puppy checklist.
This is general information, not veterinary advice. Pawwala is not a vet. If you are worried about your dog, contact your vet.
Does my dog need a booster every year? Titre tests
Core vaccines should not be given more often than necessary in adults; immunity from most modern core vaccines lasts many years. Most non-core vaccines give about 1 year of immunity, so the annual health check often includes them. Blood (titre) tests from 20 weeks can confirm protection and help set revaccination intervals. The booster your dog needs each year depends on which vaccines are due, so the price on the day can differ from the list price. We found no titre test price on the lists we read; ask your practice for one.
Health plans and insurance: who pays for vaccinations?
Pet insurance does not pay for routine vaccinations: see what pet insurance covers. Practice health plans spread the cost instead. Medivet's lists show the puppy course and boosters as “Included” for Healthcare Plan members, and Vets4Pets Complete Care costs £19.99 a month for a dog under 25 kg (figures on our flea and worm comparison). Whether a plan saves money depends on what else it includes; our guide to health plans versus insurance explains the difference.
Prices will become easier to compare
The CMA published its final Order on 22 September 2026. Its first phase, which includes published price lists so owners know the cost of basic services such as consultations and vaccinations upfront, applies to larger vet businesses from 23 December 2026; smaller businesses have longer. (CMA case page). We will add the new lists as they appear. Vaccinations are one line in the yearly budget: see the cost of owning a dog, the cat vaccination prices and our average vet bill guide.
What these prices do not include
- A first consultation or health check, where the practice charges it separately (the RVC's prices include a consultation).
- A third puppy dose: Medivet Ashby lists a three-dose course at £98, against £75 for two doses.
- Rabies vaccination for travel, and titre (blood) tests: we found no titre test price on the lists we read.
- Discounts from practice health plans, which include vaccinations for a monthly fee.
How we worked out these figures
- Read the published price lists of 11 UK practices on 21 October 2026: university practices in Liverpool, Cambridge, Glasgow and London, three Medivet practices, two DNA Vetcare practices, a VetPartners practice and an independent.
- Recorded the price of the two-injection puppy course, the yearly booster and kennel cough exactly as each list states it.
- Report the lowest and highest price for each item. We never average practice prices: these are the range at practices that publish prices, not a national average.
- Took vaccination timing from the WSAVA 2024 guidelines, the same source as our dog health hub.
What we did not do: phone practices, get quotes or survey owners. Most lists show no effective date; Liverpool's says September 2026 and the RVC's applies from 3 August 2026. Chantry Vets' puppy course price includes a microchip.
Pawwala is not a vet. The timing facts are general information from WSAVA; your vet sets the schedule for your dog.

Questions
How many puppy vaccinations are needed?
WSAVA's 2024 guidelines advise several core doses 2 to 4 weeks apart, with the last at 16 weeks or older, then another at or after 26 weeks. UK practices price a two-injection primary course: £75–£115 at the 11 practices we checked on 21 October 2026. Your vet will set the exact dates for the vaccine brand they use.
What dog vaccinations are yearly?
WSAVA says most non-core vaccines, such as leptospirosis where it is recommended and kennel cough, give about a year of immunity, while core vaccines (distemper, adenovirus and parvovirus) should not be given more often than necessary because their immunity lasts many years. Your vet decides which parts are due each year.
Are puppy vaccinations free?
Not at the practices we checked: their puppy courses cost £75–£115. Some practice health plans include vaccinations in a monthly fee, and Medivet's lists show the course as "Included" for Healthcare Plan members.
Does dog insurance cover vaccines?
Standard UK pet insurance does not cover routine care such as vaccinations. See our guide to what pet insurance covers.
