About this data · checked 21–22 October 2026ShowHide
What we did
Read the published price lists of 12 UK practices: university practices in Liverpool, Cambridge, Glasgow and London, Medivet, DNA Vetcare and VetPartners practices, and independents. Most prices were read on 21 October 2026; consultation fees were read on 22 October 2026, when we also re-read 6 practices' lists and found the sampled prices unchanged.
Included: each list's price exactly as written, with the practice's own label. A “from” price counts at its starting figure. Weight-band rows use only the practices that publish bands.
Updated quarterly, and sooner as new lists appear under the CMA's price-list rules.
What we did not do
Phone practices, ask for quotes or survey owners. These 12 practices are not a random sample of UK vets, and most lists show no effective date.
Average anything. A mean of a few practices' prices would look precise but tell you little about your own vet; the range shows what published lists charge.

Why we show ranges, not an average
Prices vary a lot between practices: the dearest yearly dog booster on our lists is 64% more than the cheapest. An average of a dozen practices would hide that spread, so we show the range and name every practice. Health plans can lower routine costs; see health plans versus insurance.
The CMA published its final Order on 22 September 2026. Its first phase, which includes published price lists so owners know the cost of basic services such as consultations and vaccinations upfront, applies to larger vet businesses from 23 December 2026; smaller businesses have longer. (CMA case page). We will add new lists to this tracker as they appear.

- Out-of-hours, referral and emergency fees: see our average vet bill guide.
- Health plan member prices, which several practices discount.
- Prices at practices that do not publish a list.
How we worked out these figures
- Recorded each price exactly as the practice's own list states it, with the list's label and any weight band.
- For each procedure, report the lowest and the highest published price and how many practices are behind it. We never average practice prices.
- A "from" price counts at its starting figure. A list that gives a range (for example "£235–£312.50 depending on weight") adds both ends.
- Dog neutering by weight uses the same bands as our neutering guide (up to 10 kg, 10–25 kg, 25–40 kg, over 40 kg) and counts only practices that publish bands.
- Old Registry Vets and Canterbury Vets (both DNA Vetcare) publish identical dental bands; both are listed, so the dental practice counts include them twice.
