YuMOVE or Dasuquin: which costs less a day for my dog?

For a 10 or 20 kg dog, they cost about the same once any loading period ends: £0.32 against £0.32 a day at 10 kg, and £0.64 against £0.64 at 20 kg, on prices checked 22 October 2026. For a 30 kg dog, YuMOVE costs less (£0.64 against £0.81 a day), because Dasuquin moves to its dearer large-dog tub over 25 kg. Dasuquin has more glucosamine per daily dose and contains chondroitin; YuMOVE contains green-lipped mussel.

Limits

  • Costs are pro rata from one-off prices, before delivery and subscription discounts. You buy whole packs, so your first purchase costs more than one month's share.
  • YuMOVE costs use the 120-tablet pack on yumove.co.uk; the 300 pack (£90.00) is slightly cheaper per tablet and smaller packs cost more.
  • Dasuquin costs use the lowest in-stock price we found for each tub (PetCounter), with Pet Drugs Online as a second price. We could not read VetUK, Viovet or Amazon UK, and zooplus and Pets at Home did not list it.
  • Weight bands do not line up: YuMOVE steps up at 16 kg and Dasuquin at 13.5 kg and 25 kg, so a dog near a boundary can change the result.
  • We read Dasuquin's dose and ingredients from Protexin's label. The PDSA Pet Store's description lists a slightly different composition, so check the tub you buy.
  • We compared labels and prices only. We did not give either product to a dog, and we make no claim that either works better.

How much do YuMOVE and Dasuquin cost a day for my dog?

We took three dogs, about 10, 20 and 30 kg, and applied each product's own feeding table to its published price on 22 October 2026. YuMOVE: £38.57 for 120 tablets on yumove.co.uk, so £0.32 a tablet. Dasuquin: £50.89 for 80 under-25 kg tablets and £64.49 for 80 over-25 kg tablets at PetCounter. Cost a day = price ÷ tablets × tablets a day; 30 days = cost a day × 30.

  • About 10 kg

    YuMOVE: 1 tablet a day = £0.32; × 30 = £9.64

    Dasuquin: half a tablet a day (Small/Medium (under 25 kg)) = £0.32; × 30 = £9.54

Dasuquin at Pet Drugs Online: £0.34 a day

  • About 20 kg

    YuMOVE: 2 tablets a day = £0.64; × 30 = £19.29

    Dasuquin: 1 tablet a day (Small/Medium (under 25 kg)) = £0.64; × 30 = £19.08

Dasuquin at Pet Drugs Online: £0.69 a day

  • About 30 kg

    YuMOVE: 2 tablets a day = £0.64; × 30 = £19.29

    Dasuquin: 1 tablet a day (Large (over 25 kg)) = £0.81; × 30 = £24.18

Dasuquin at Pet Drugs Online: £0.84 a day

What do the first weeks cost?

Both makers start with a higher amount. YuMOVE says to double the daily amount for the first month. Dasuquin's label gives a loading amount for 4–6 weeks, then says the number of tablets a day may be halved. During that start:

  • About 10 kg: YuMOVE 2 tablets a day, £0.64 (£19.29 for the first month). Dasuquin 1 tablet a day, £0.64 (£19.08 for 30 days of loading).
  • About 20 kg: YuMOVE 4 tablets a day, £1.29 (£38.57 for the first month). Dasuquin 2 tablets a day, £1.27 (£38.17 for 30 days of loading).
  • About 30 kg: YuMOVE 4 tablets a day, £1.29 (£38.57 for the first month). Dasuquin 2 tablets a day, £1.61 (£48.37 for 30 days of loading).

Over a first year (one month doubled for YuMOVE; 4 or 6 weeks of loading for Dasuquin), the pro rata totals are 10 kg: YuMOVE £126.96, Dasuquin £125.00 to £129.45; 20 kg: YuMOVE £253.92, Dasuquin £250.00 to £258.90; and 30 kg: YuMOVE £253.92, Dasuquin £316.81 to £328.09.

Prices read on 22 October 2026: yumove.co.uk; Dasuquin at PetCounter (under 25 kg), PetCounter (over 25 kg) and Pet Drugs Online. YuMOVE subscribers were offered 50% off the first two subscription orders, then 20% off ongoing orders; new subscribers can add a free starter pack to feed double in the first month. Pro rata figures, not what you pay at the till.

Round by round

Small to medium dog, about 10 kg

YuMOVE is 1 tablet a day (£0.32); Dasuquin is half an under-25 kg tablet (£0.32 at PetCounter, £0.34 at Pet Drugs Online). You will need to split Dasuquin tablets, and one tub lasts about 160 days at this dose.

Edge: depends on your dog, because after loading, both cost about £0.32 a day at the lowest prices we found

Medium dog, about 20 kg

YuMOVE is 2 tablets a day; Dasuquin is 1 under-25 kg tablet. Over 30 days that is £19.29 against £19.08, or £20.62 at Pet Drugs Online. The start costs differ more: YuMOVE's doubled month is £38.57, and Dasuquin's loading costs £1.27 a day for 4–6 weeks.

Edge: depends on your dog, because after loading, YuMOVE costs £0.64 a day and Dasuquin £0.64 at the lowest price we found

Large dog, about 30 kg

At 30 kg YuMOVE stays at 2 tablets a day (its 16–30 kg band), while Dasuquin moves to the over-25 kg tub at £64.49. A 30 kg dog sits at the top of YuMOVE's band; from 31 kg it is 3 tablets a day (£0.96).

Edge: YuMOVE, because YuMOVE costs £0.64 a day against £0.81 for Dasuquin's large tablet, £4.90 less over 30 days

From each maker's label, per tablet × tablets a day after loading, read 22 October 2026. Both doses double while loading.

Edge: depends on your dog, because Dasuquin has more glucosamine and adds chondroitin, while YuMOVE adds green-lipped mussel, so the choice depends on the ingredient you want

Does YuMOVE or Dasuquin work better?

We found no trial comparing the two products, so we do not say either works better. The evidence differs by ingredient. A 2022 meta-analysis of 72 trials in dogs and cats found found clear pain-relief efficacy for omega-3-enriched diets and omega-3 supplements, weak efficacy for collagen, and 'a very marked non-effect' of chondroitin-glucosamine products, which the authors say should no longer be recommended for pain in canine and feline osteoarthritis. (Barbeau-Grégoire M et al., Int J Mol Sci, 2022). That bears on both products' glucosamine and on Dasuquin's chondroitin. For green-lipped mussel, YuMOVE's main active, one 45-dog trial found more dogs improved than on placebo (Hielm-Björkman A et al., Evid Based Complement Alternat Med, 2009), and an earlier review rated it at a moderate level (Aragon CL, Hofmeister EH, Budsberg SC, J Am Vet Med Assoc, 2007).

We have not reviewed the studies on ASU, Dasuquin's distinctive ingredient, so we make no claim about it. Both makers say their products support joint function. Our guide do joint supplements work for dogs? goes through the evidence ingredient by ingredient.

The PDSA says: “Joint supplements aren't a replacement for medications, and don't work for all dogs.” (PDSA, checked 22 October 2026). Keeping your dog slim also matters for joints; our dog food for weight loss page covers that. If your dog is stiff, limping or slow to get up, see your vet before buying either, and if you are worried, contact your vet.

Do I need a prescription for Dasuquin in the UK?

No. On 22 October 2026 Dasuquin was on open sale at online pet shops and pharmacies, including the PDSA's own pet store, without a prescription step, and Protexin describes it as a joint health supplement. Its label sets out composition and additives as UK feed labels do. YuMOVE's label says “A complementary pet feed for dogs”. Neither is a licensed medicine. Your vet may still suggest one, and the Dasuquin label says to follow your vet if they recommend a different loading period.

Neither fits?

If neither suits your budget or your dog, our joint supplement comparison works out the cost a day for a 20 kg dog across more brands, from about £0.30 a day for a powder. A dog with joint pain may need treatment from a vet, so check what that could cost and how insurance treats it.

Bottom line

On 22 October 2026's prices, YuMOVE and Dasuquin cost about the same a day for a 10 or 20 kg dog after loading, and YuMOVE costs £0.16 a day less for a 30 kg dog. Choose on the ingredient you want and your dog's allergies, not on price, and see your vet first if your dog is in pain.

Frequently asked questions

How many YuMOVE tablets a day?

YuMOVE's feeding table for its Joint Support tablets, read on 22 October 2026, is 1 tablet a day up to 15 kg, 2 a day for 16–30 kg, 3 for 31–45 kg and 4 over 45 kg. YuMOVE says to double the daily amount for the first month, unless you are switching from another YuMOVE joint product.

How many YuMOVE PLUS a day?

The same amounts as the Adult tablets: 1 a day up to 15 kg, 2 for 16–30 kg, 3 for 31–45 kg and 4 over 45 kg, doubled for the first month. Each PLUS tablet has 250 mg glucosamine HCl, 175 mg ActivEase, 19.6 mg N-acetyl-D-glucosamine and 1.8 mg hyaluronic acid. On the 120 pack (£52.14 on 22 October 2026), 2 a day costs £0.87.

Is Dasuquin a Protexin product?

Dasuquin is made by Nutramax Laboratories and sold in the UK by ADM Protexin Ltd, which lists it on its own site. So "YuMOVE vs Protexin" for joint tablets usually means YuMOVE vs Dasuquin. Protexin sells two tubs of 80 chewable tablets: one for dogs under 25 kg and a stronger one for dogs over 25 kg.

How we compared · 15 sources, checked 22 October 2026Show

What we did

On 22 October 2026 we read YuMOVE's Adult and PLUS product pages (prices, feeding tables and labels), Protexin's Dasuquin page (directions, ingredients and composition), and Dasuquin's product pages at PetCounter, Pet Drugs Online, the PDSA Pet Store and MedicAnimal. We searched zooplus and Pets at Home, which did not list it. We applied each feeding table to dogs of about 10, 20 and 30 kg. Cost a day = pack price ÷ tablets × tablets a day; 30 days = cost a day × 30; first-year figures add the start-up period pro rata.

What we did not do

give either product to a dog, buy either product, or score them. We could not read VetUK, Viovet or Amazon UK, which blocked our requests. Costs leave out delivery, and subscription discounts are mentioned but not used in the figures.

Prices and terms change. Confirm on the retailer's page before you buy.
